How to Install QuoteShield on Your Website in 5 Minutes
You've heard about lead scoring. You've seen how much bad leads cost. You're ready to stop wasting time on tyre-kickers and start focusing on the jobs that pay.
Good. Let's get QuoteShield installed on your website. The whole process takes about 5 minutes, and you don't need to be a tech wizard to do it.
What You'll Need
- A QuoteShield account (free to start, 20 leads/month)
- Access to your website (either the admin panel or the ability to edit HTML)
- 5 minutes
That's it. No special software, no coding knowledge, no IT department.
Step 1: Create Your Account (1 minute)
Head to QuoteShield and sign up. You'll need:
- Your name and email
- Your business name and ABN
- Your trade type (select from the list: plumbing, electrical, fencing, painting, etc.)
- Your service area (suburbs or radius)
Once you've confirmed your email, you're in. The dashboard gives you everything you need to configure your widget.
Step 2: Configure Your Widget (2 minutes)
In the dashboard, head to Settings and customise your widget:
Trade-Specific Questions
QuoteShield comes with pre-built question sets for different trades. Select your trade and the widget automatically includes relevant questions.
For example, a roofer gets questions about:
- Roof type (tile, Colorbond, flat)
- Issue type (leak, damage, replacement, new install)
- Roof access (single storey, double storey, steep pitch)
- Urgency
A landscaper gets:
- Project type (garden, retaining wall, paving, full landscape)
- Area size (approximate square metres)
- Current state (bare soil, existing garden, overgrown)
- Budget range
You can customise these questions or add your own. The goal is to capture enough information to score the lead and give you a useful picture before you pick up the phone.
Branding
- Upload your logo
- Set your brand colours (the widget matches your site)
- Choose your preferred call-to-action text ("Get a Free Quote", "Request a Callback", etc.)
Notifications
- Email notifications for new leads (on by default)
- Push notifications via browser (optional)
- SMS alerts for high-scoring leads (optional, small per-SMS cost)
Rate Card
If you want AI-powered price estimates on every lead, set up your rate card. This takes an extra 5-10 minutes and is optional but highly recommended.
Step 3: Install the Widget (2 minutes)
This is the bit that sounds scary but isn't. You have two options:
Option A: Embed Code (Works Everywhere)
Copy the embed code from your dashboard. It looks like this:
<script src="https://quoteshield.com.au/embed.js" data-tradie-id="your-id-here"></script>
Paste it into your website wherever you want the widget to appear. For most tradies, this is:
- Your homepage (above the fold, ideally)
- Your "Contact" or "Get a Quote" page
- Your service pages
How to paste it depends on your website platform:
WordPress: Edit the page in WordPress, switch to "HTML" or "Code" view, and paste the script where you want the widget. Or use a "Custom HTML" block in the Gutenberg editor.
Squarespace: Add a "Code" block to the page and paste the script.
Wix: Add an "HTML iframe" element and paste the script.
Custom-built site: Paste the script directly into your HTML file. If you have a web developer, send them the code and ask them to add it. It's a 30-second job for anyone who knows HTML.
Option B: Standalone Page
If you don't want to touch your website code, QuoteShield gives you a standalone widget URL:
https://quoteshield.com.au/widget/your-id-here
You can link to this from your website, social media, Google Business Profile, or anywhere else. The customer clicks the link, fills in the widget, and you get the scored lead in your dashboard.
This is the zero-effort option. No code, no embedding, just a link. Perfect if your website is basic or you're not comfortable editing HTML.
Step 4: Test It
Before you go live, test the widget yourself:
- Visit your website (or the standalone link)
- Fill in the widget as if you were a customer
- Submit a test enquiry
- Check your dashboard to see the lead appear with its score
- Check your email/phone for the notification
If everything looks good, you're live. If something's off, check the troubleshooting section below.
Step 5: Start Receiving Scored Leads
That's it. You're done. From now on, every customer who submits through your widget will be automatically:
- Scored based on their submission quality, urgency, budget, and photos
- Categorised as Hot, Warm, or Cold
- Analysed with AI-generated job assessment (if photos were provided)
- Estimated with a price range (if you set up your rate card)
You'll see all of this in your dashboard, and you'll get notified based on your preferences.
Troubleshooting
Widget not showing up?
- Make sure you pasted the full script code (including the opening
<script>and closing</script>tags) - Check that your tradie ID in the code matches your account
- Try clearing your browser cache and refreshing
- Some WordPress themes block external scripts. Try disabling caching plugins temporarily.
Widget looks weird on mobile?
- The widget is responsive by default, but some website themes can interfere. If the widget is too narrow or overlapping elements, check that the container div has enough width.
- Contact support with a screenshot and we'll sort it out.
Not getting notifications?
- Check your notification settings in the dashboard
- Check your spam folder for email notifications
- Make sure your email address is correct in your profile
What Happens Next?
Once you're set up, here are the quick wins:
- Set up your rate card for AI-powered price estimates (10 minutes)
- Share your widget link on your Google Business Profile and social media
- Add the widget to every relevant page on your site (not just the contact page)
- Review your first few leads in the dashboard and get familiar with the scoring
Within a week, you'll start seeing the difference. High-scoring leads that convert into paying jobs. Low-scoring leads that you can handle efficiently without wasting half a day on site visits.
Why This Matters
The average tradie loses $30,000-$120,000 per year on bad leads. QuoteShield won't eliminate every tyre-kicker, but it will dramatically reduce the time you spend on leads that were never going to convert.
More importantly, it helps you respond faster to the good leads. And in a game where speed wins, that's a serious competitive advantage.
Whether you're a plumber getting 5 leads a week or an electrician getting 30, the setup is the same. Five minutes now saves you hours every week.
So crack on. Your future self will wonder why you didn't do it sooner.
